Favorite Podcasts!

Hey guys! Honey here with my top four favorite podcasts of all time! Wooooooooo! I know podcasts are not for everyone (at one point, I didn't think they were for me!). But, I thought someone out there might want to give them a listen so here are a few of my suggestions. Even if you don't feel "podcasty" I hope you give them a try. I promise, they are not boring! In fact, here is a list of things you can do while listening to a podcast:
- Walking (like I do!)
- Driving/Riding the Bus
- Bike riding
- Running
- Roller Blading
- Skateboarding
- Cleaning
- Organizing
- Decorating
- Writing a paper
- Taking a shower
- Hanging out with your friends
- Hanging out with your family
- Surfing the internet
- Sitting on the couch, relaxing
- &&& so much more!

Where do you listen to podcasts?

Wedding Series Part 1 - Engagement Party (Shoe Game)

Hey everyone! As promised, here is a new video part of our wedding series! This was during our engagement party on October 12, 2013 in Santa Barbara, CA. Isn't is beautiful?! I just love it there!

Please be advised that this video DOES contain adult themes and language (our friends are a little rowdy). I don't want to offend anyone, so I just want to be honest and up-front. This is a fun game and you learn a little about mine and Joey's compatibility! It is often played during wedding receptions as well! Special thanks to our wonderful friends Jace (the MC), Brandon (the camera man), and all the amazing friends who came to wish us well!

I hope you enjoy! Please stay tuned for more videos and our engagement photos will be posted in the next few weeks! :)

Sending lots of love and light,
Honey Lea (and Joey!)

Fall 2013 Update!

Hi friends! I hope the past few weeks have been treating you well! September was a bit of a rough month for me, but I am hoping October will be better!

I wanted to give you a quick update. I am still enrolled full-time at my college, I am still working 2 jobs (totaling about 20 hours a week) and planning a wedding! Midterms, presentations, projects, and papers are pretty much consuming all my time. I wanted to get at least 1 video up in September, but the video I filmed has not been edited yet. I am really hoping to get some free time, but its so hard to know when that'll be!

In the mean time, here are a couple things I am currently loving:
1) Podcasts: They have changed my life! I listen to them whenever I am on the bus or walking to school/home. I have really been loving these in particular: Freakonomics, This American Life, Stuff You Should Know, and Stuff Mom Never Told You. As a visual/kinesthetic learner, I didn't think I would like podcasts, so I am surprised! I feel like I have learned so much in such a short amount of time! I've gained a great perspective on certain topics and feel like I can contribute in engaging conversations. I've even been able to use some of the topics for class discussions. Seriously, check these guys out! If I made a video on podcasts, would you watch it?

2) TV Shows:  2 words, BREAKING BAD. Joey and I just started season 3 and we're taking a very strict vow to only watch episode when together. It's so hard since I only see him on weekends but IT'S INSANE. Best show! I am also loving the return of How I Met Your Mother and Grey's Anatomy. It's incredible to see how long those shows have been on now!

3) Wedding planning: YES! I will be posting more videos! This is not as easy as I thought it was going to be (or as inexpensive!) but I have some great ideas/advice that I want to share. We literally JUST booked our venue, so now the hard part is over!

I think that's it for my update! I have another midterm in a couple hours, so I am posting this on my study break (been up since 5am studying!). Thanks for reading and please stay tuned for more!

Lots of love and light!
xoxo Honey Lea

Update for Here's the Deal

Hi everyone! I apologize for being absent from my blog and YouTube. I mentioned previously on Facebook that my Nana has been very sick in the hospital for over a month. On August 31st, my family said goodbye to our wonderful Nana for the last time. It's been a hard week on us, but we're all comforted to know that she is in a better place and is finally without pain.

I want to thank you for being patient and supportive of me during this absence. My schedule has been rather difficult. I just started up fall semester at school and I am currently working 2 "real" jobs outside of YouTube. Having time for videos hasn't been easy, let me tell you!

Despite all that, I have many videos planned and intend to continue with filming and editing. My videos may be randomly uploaded, so please make sure you've subscribed to my channel to make sure you get notified ASAP! :) Click here to subscribe!

I also want to personally thank all those who have recently subscribed to my channel since watching my appearance on The Schuerman Show. I now have 448 subscribers! Holy cow! Thank you! If you didn't get the chance to see it, Sam went with my mom and I to shop for my wedding dress. We had loads of fun! To watch the video (and see lots of wedding dresses!) watch the video below!

Thanks for all the kind words, virtual hugs, and love. As always, sending you lots of love and light!

Mermaids and Makeup!

Hey everyone! So I have TWO special videos for you in today's post! First, I picked my "mermaids!" Not sure what the heck that means? See the video below:

The above video will be Part 1 of a new series on my YouTube channel about planning my wedding. It will include all my DIY projects, advice, and more! I have an extremely limited budget, as I am sure many other brides have, so I thought I would share my experiences with the world. :)

In regards to my second video, I convinced Joey to do my makeup for the first time EVER and let me film it! I thought it would be funny and a couple people on YouTube asked to see more of my sweet Joey. I laughed like a maniac the entire time we filmed (as you can tell) and it was even worse when I was trying to edit it. There was so much great footage! Anyway, I will post the video below. Enjoy!

First Vlog and a Surprise! :)

Hey everyone! I know I am posting this about a week late. I apologize for that!

Well, as most you may already know, my boyfriend Joey and I went on a mini-vacation to Catalina Island for the first time to celebrate our 6 year anniversary. While there, Joey proposed! And for those who may be wondering, NO! I did not have any idea that he was planning on doing that! I was very surprised!

I wanted to try out my first vlog and I thought that this opportunity was a great chance to introduce Joey to my viewers. I want to do a few more videos with him, and from the looks of the comments, people want to see more of him too! :)

To see how it all went down, check out my latest video! Stay tuned until the end for some pictures:

In other news, my summer school class is winding down and I have a tiny break between finals and the beginning of Fall semester (MY LAST YEAR AS AN UNDERGRAD!!!). I will be visiting my beautiful hometown in Lake Tahoe and plan on doing another little vlog loving for you guys, so don't worry! ;)

And, as requested, some delightful photos of my beautiful new accessory! It is a beautiful high-set round cut diamond in a platinum setting. You'll have to wait and see how beautiful the wedding band is!

Sending lots of love and light your way!

Honey Lea

P.S. Would you guys like to see a video or blog series on my wedding planning? Let me know in the comments!

Uh-Oh Products! :(

Hey guys! Honey here with another video for you this week! I hope you are all enjoying the heat of the summer and having some fun!

So when I originally started my YouTube channel, the phrase "here's the deal" wasn't always supposed to be so literal. I wanted to tell my viewers the good and the bad, basically like giving you guys the "low-down." So today, I bring you my very first video on what products I try to avoid (and maybe you should too?). As a little treat, I also included a few bloopers at the end (a bit of an inspiration from leighannsays here on the 'Tube). And for those wondering why I was listening to "Bippity Boppity Boop" then you have yet to learn my obsession with Disney. I was listening to the Disney station on Pandora while testing my lighting and autofocus. If you don't listen to the Disney station on Pandora, then you've been missing out in your life!

I hope you guys appreciate this video in some way! I know it can come off as kind of negative, but not everything us ladies try work out for us and I think YouTube is an awesome tool to give reviews (good AND bad!).

Thanks again so much for watching/reading/interacting on my page! Be sure you are subscribed to get the latest updates on my videos! And come find me everywhere else:

Colors of the Rainbow!

Hey everyone! I'm back with another blog post/video for you this week! Something really cool happened in my life. At the beginning of the month, I attended Generation Beauty, and while meandering through the booths, I ran into SecretLifeOfABioNerd (also known as K.L.). Of course I told her that I love her videos, and her sweet little heart subscribed to my channel! I felt super duper awesome pretty much all day because of that. Well, a couple weeks ago, she tagged me in her Colors of the Rainbow tag! How freaking stoked am I?! Here's my version of colorful rainbow goodness:

If you guys don't know about K.L.'s YouTube channel, then you really should. She does lots of DIY stuff (my personal favorite is the makeup brush cleaner!). Please subscribe and tell her that I sent you! :)

Now for Honey Life News:
For about 2 months, I was on the job hunt. And let me tell you, job hunting is hard! Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I have pretty good references, qualifications, and experience and it was NOT easy finding a job! Anywho, I finally found one a couple weeks ago (thank gooooooodness!) and I will be working a lot more. I also start summer school on July 8th for 6 weeks, so my videos may be published a little less often. Just wanted to give you guys a heads-up! I post on Instagram, like, way too much, so if you want to get more daily doses of my nerdiness, find me with the username: honey_lea.

Thanks so much for reading/watching! You guys rock!

Pair "Couple" App!

Hey everyone! I finally got the chance to film a video on my new *HD* camera! I am so in love with it! And I got it for such an incredible deal (another video to come...I just want to give it a good using before reviewing it!). What do you guys think?

So today, I am talking about the "Couple" or "Pair" app that is available for iPhone and Android operating systems (I don't think it's on the Windows app store...*sad face*). The best part is that it is FREE and it does not have pesky ads all over the interface of the app! Here's some photos I took on my iPhone:

As you can see, it has an excellent rating for iPhone users. I haven't heard of or found anything like it, so its definitely a great find! If you'd like to know more about the app, visit couple.me (the makers of the app).

And of course, for a detailed tour of the app, be sure to watch my newest YouTube video here:

Here's the Deal Thanks YOU!!!!!

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a fabulous weekend! I sure did! I attended Ipsy's Generation Beauty event at L.A. Live this past Saturday and Sunday. If you read my last blog post, I mentioned that I was going by myself and was nervous about it. Well, if there is one thing I can give advice for, it is to never let doing something by yourself deter you from doing it! I feel like I met so many new friends and had the chance to learn from such influential people! I am so glad I went! You can find a ton of photos on my Instagram (honey_lea) and my Facebook (www.facebook.com/honeylea88). Here's my latest video:

Something else that has made me feel so LOVED has been how many subscribers I now have! Last week, I had about 60 subscribers and as of 4:40pm on June 4, 2013 I have 185!!!! That is just insane!!! If you are one of those subscribers, THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!! I am so grateful that you chose to watch my videos!!!

Stay tuned for more videos. I just purchased a snazzy new camera, so videos from now on will be in high definition. I am so excited to share some new things with you! And if you have ANY suggestions, please send them to my Facebook or YouTube so I can read them and respond! Update & GenBeauty!

Hi virtual friends! I wanted to take a moment and explain what has been going on and why you haven't seen any new videos up in the last few weeks. Well, its a frustrating tale to tell! I currently have several videos shot and awaiting editing. For all my videos, I have been using an older version of Windows Live Movie Maker to edit. This version was too simple and I wanted to try and get some snazzy editing stuff. So I updated Movie Maker and while I prefer its new options, it won't let me import my footage because it can't read the format. So, I tried several converters, only to have my footage turn all wonky. Then I tried new editing software and then my computer overheated and shut off without saving my work (which happened to be an hour long video cut down to under 20 mins!). So that brings me to today. Honey 0, technology 3.

I am working on upgrading my camera to an HD cam, but I just lost my "real" job and have been on the hunt for the past month and a half without luck. If I can save up enough money, I will invest in a new camera and top-notch editing software! Maybe if I get more viewers, that might be possible! :)

In good news, I will be attending the Generation Beauty event this Saturday and Sunday and I am SO excited to meet my favorite YouTubers (see www.genbeauty.com)! I don't have anyone to go with, so I sure hope I can meet some friends along the way! This week, I was also lucky enough to catch up with my friend, Sam, and her lovely family and show her around my neck of the woods. I hadn't seen Phoenix since he was only a few months old! (Sam posts a daily vlog on YouTube, and she's such a joy to watch! You can find the link to the day we got to visit here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tmf_ojSDJWU).

If you're a new viewer, please stop by my Facebook page (search honeylea88) and check out my Instagram (honey_lea). Talk with you soon!

xoxo,
Honey

P.S. I also finished my first year at my new school with a 4.0! :)

How to Apply Stage Makeup

Hey guys! Honey here with a not-so deal or discount video this week! I've been perusing the Youtube world for a few years now and feel that there is a great lacking among stage makeup videos. Is it just me who notices this? Therefore, I decided to make my own!

I was asked recently by a couple of friends on some tips and tricks for stage makeup. This is what gave me inspiration to make a video. I was a dancer in a middle east ensemble for 2 years (the reason why I dramatically extend the ends of my eyeliner) and my mom is a cosmetologist, so I feel I have some experience to share.

I don't feel that all my tactics are 100% correct, but they cover the basics. If you're just starting to play around with stage makeup or are a mom wanting to learn more for your daughter's recital, then this video is for you!

Please feel free to leave any feedback! And if you'd like to see some videos of me dancing (in stage makeup!) check out my other Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/hunibuni121507

Here's the video:

Honey's Music Picks

Lately, I've been in really high spirits and my moods have been (for the most part) pleasant. So, naturally, I have been listening to the saddest songs in my music library. But I've been listening to them not because they are sad but because they are phenomenal songs! They evoke so much raw emotion. It's so powerful and real. So, even though they are sad, I hope you can enjoy them for their richness. I hope I don't depress you too much...

It turns out that my choice in saddest songs are all ballads sung by women of country! They just know how to do it right. No one can compete with that!

So, without further ado, here is Honey's top 4 saddest songs!

#4 If I Die Young by The Band Perry
This song ends up having a happier ending, which is why I listed it as number 4. I first heard this come on my Pandora and I felt seized with emotion. It's eerily cheerful.

#3 Just A Dream by Carrie Underwood
I couldn't decide which Carrie Underwood song was more depressing: Temporary Home or this song. But in the end, I went with this song because Carrie Underwood so perfectly executed her water-works.

#2 Stay by Sugarland
My sister showed me this video (and consequently, the song) several years ago while visiting me. She prefaced with, "Dude, listen to this song. It's SOOO sad, but SOOO good!" Have a box of tissues handy and stay clear if you're anticipating a visit from Aunt Flow soon. Jennifer Nettles is definitely singing from her soul and you'll see why.

#1 Concrete Angel by Martina McBride
Again, my sister showed me this video/song several years back. I don't even have words for it. Just watch. And then go outside and breathe some fresh air because you're gonna need it.

So there you have it! Honey's 4 saddest songs ever. And by no means is this exclusive. And by no means am I any type of music/song critic. :)

Here's the Deal: Ipsy!

Hey everyone! Honey here with another video! This week, I decided to talk about a recent subscription I started with Ipsy (www.ipsy.com). It is a monthly beauty subscription for only $10 a month! WOW! Incredible!

The company was co-founded by Michelle Phan, a Youtube giant! She's well-known for her make up tutorials and has an extremely large following on Youtube. Ipsy has also taken on several other Youtubers like Charis Lincoln (CharismaStarTV) and Promise Phan (dope2111).

Since I have been using the products in my January glam bag for a few weeks now, I decided to do a review. For more information, check out my video:

I hope you guys enjoy! Go check out Ipsy and tell me what you think! :)

Wishing you all health and happiness!

Happy New Year!

Happy 2013! I hope your New Years was as celebrated as mine! The world didn't end after all!

As you know, I have been totally absent from my life at Here's the Deal. In August 2012, I transferred to a new school and moved cities, so the adjustment has been a little difficult. I have a new university, new job, new house, new friends...life hasn't been easy! But I am happy to announce that I earned a 4.0 in my very first semester at my new school! Woo! Go me!

I've been staying with my family for about a month since it's been the holidays. The internet access here is very slow, so while I have had time to make videos, uploading them is a whole different challenge. I have been busy planning the new items I want to share with you, so expect to see some new video(s) by the end of the month! I appreciate your patience and for those who have been following me from the beginning: THANK YOU!

Something I wanted to share with you guys in spirit of the new year, is my resolution. I kept seeing people post about "happiness" jars on Facebook. The idea is that you take an old empty jar and label it however you want. Every time you have a happy thought, experience or accomplishment, you write it down and put it in the jar. On December 31, you read all your notes and remember how awesome your years was. My mom and I made our jars yesterday! What do you think? We only had black puffy paint, so that's why it isn't colorful...

I am in the process of saving up for a newer HD camera (mine currently isn't!) so bear with me in the new videos if its not as beautiful as other Youtube bloggers! Again, thanks for following me and being supportive! Sending health and wellness your way!
 ~Honey~
